Sexy and lacy wedding lingerie is here!

Sexy and lacy wedding lingerie is here!

Some say nothing reveals a woman better than the innerwear she chooses for herself.

And when the occasion is your wedding night, you owe it to yourself to bring out that side of you that’s deeply personal and romantic. There are various kinds of lingerie in the market today – bras and panties, teddies, g-strings as well as elaborate two-piece nightwear sets. From demure elegance to erotic appeal, you can pick whatever you feel the sexiest in. Before you head out to get the perfect set for you, here’s a look at the most stylish options that adorns the wardrobes of New Age brides, who aren’t shying away from getting experimental.

Comfort comes first: If you’re confused as to whether you should opt for something sensuous or stick to the comfort factor, blindly go for the latter. Sex appeal can wait as you have the entire evening to impress your partner.

Material and texture: For summer weddings, natural fibres like cotton and silk would be the ideal choice, as it can absorb sweat and keep you cool throughout. Winter weddings will give you better options like satin and velour.

The right colour: Colour of your lingerie should be something that matches your skin tone, eye colour and hair. Women with lighter skin can choose pastel colours, while those with darker skin, can go in for brighter colours. Black suits just about every woman. Plain or printed lingerie send out different messages. While passion is best emphasized with fluffy cloud prints, plain colours speak volumes about your sophistication and sexuality.

Go to specialist shops: For wedding lingerie, you will always need a fitting session. Look for specialist shops that have enough choice to cater to your needs.

The bottom line is: Your bridal lingerie must be something that primarily appeals to you. Do not go by what others like, as you may feel uncomfortable and not-so-confident on the wedding day.

Turn on the heat with edible lingerie: Indulge in some naughty fun by using edible lingerie as a dessert. Even though the idea of edible lingerie is more than 30 years old, it has taken couples a while to mix their pleasures with something to do with food. Thongs as well as bras come in edible varieties. The most popular and favoured are the candy ones in bright colours made of fruit flavoured candy pieces. What’s more, these come with add-ons of chocolate or maple syrup! So, if red is your colour, go for a strawberryflavoured red or if black turns you on, you can pick blackberry jelly.

Bra and panty with sexy prints: There are bridal versions of nearly every type of lingerie. Something as simple as a bridal thong and a matching lacy bra can make you look more appealing and add a sense of allure that will drive your man crazy.

Teddy: Traditional teddy lingerie has moulded cups to make your chest look delectable, and is cut high on the thighs – making your legs look a mile long. Shaped similarly to a one-piece bathing suit, these sexy little numbers instantly enhance your curves. Teddys are worn as sleep wear, as well as intimate wear.

Charmeuse strapless corset and panty set in soothing pink

Corset: A corset or a bustier is the most structured lingerie garment. It pulls in the waist, flattens the tummy area and increases the appearance of the bust, giving a pleasing silhouette, the classic ‘hourglass’ figure. Most corsets lace up the front or the back, or both and can be sported by women of all sizes, from petites to pluses.

Gorgeous flyaway mesh babydoll with underwire padded cups and sexy lace trims over hot pink satin.

Babydolls: A short negligee, it has the ability to emphasize the bust, minimize the waist, and accentuate the rear and upper thighs. The seductive design with a touch of innocence and a great deal of kinkiness will surely ignite the spark for a hot, romantic time. They are often trimmed with bows, ribbons, lace and ruffles and sometimes come with matching panties.

Sexy and sultry, this long chemise wrap set features red matt satin long chemise styled with lace trims and adjustable straps, along with a floral printed wrap

Robes and gowns: A night gown is a loose dress worn in bed. You can opt for one with ankle length or knee length, anything that suits you well as a gown flatters every body type. Also, gowns help you strike any mood, from modest and comfy to hot and dramatic. They are often sold as a set with matching robes, which greatly enhance their lovely effect.

This sleeveless gown is made of soft matt satin. The fuchsia floral prints, lace trims and the sexy crossback makes it a perfect wedding night wear

Chemise

A chemise is similar to a babydoll, except that a chemise is usually closer fitting than a babydoll. It can be as short as hip-length, or as long as floor-length and is always sleeveless, and can be trimmed with ribbons, bows, lace, etc. A chemise flatters many body types; it can be sized to emphasize your good curves or minimize them.

Slip your legs into lovely net stockings to instantly spice up your appearance

Add ons: After you choose that perfect honeymoon lingerie, you may also want to consider buying a few accessories. The accessories need not be anything sleezy. Maybe you could buy a suspender belt, a wedding garter or fishnet stockings. Try to find something that you will love to wear and look good in.

Stylish bra accessories: Just detach your old straps and slip the new decorative or clear straps in place. Pick from glamorous beaded, jewelled or glitter embellished bra straps in stunning designs.

Garter and suspender belts: A garter belt is worn around the thigh, and has four or more clips on short to keep stockings up properly. Some garter belts are just for fun whereas others are designed for actual support of stockings throughout a busy day. Garter belts, of course, are colour matched to the panties and stockings.

Stockings: Stockings are leg-wear that cover from your toes to your thighs; each leg is separate and they are held up either by a garter belt or, in the case of stay-ups, by the elastic band in the thigh area. Lace stockings are also elegant and exciting; you could think of them as a style midway between fishnets and patterned stockings.

Stylish bra straps are functional, attractive and interchangeable between your outfits

Go classy and minimalistic in 2012

Go classy and minimalistic in 2012

Fashionistas tell you what’s haute on the fashion scene.

Among all things new in the New Year, fashion trends in clothing are something that the fashion savvy looks forward to the most. What new styles will rule the scene; whether or not a particular pattern will continue to be in vogue – becomes the hot topic of discussion.

City designers give us an insight on what 2012 holds for the fashion hungry…

Of cuts and styles
It’s the year to be classy, upbeat and very high on fashion, says designer Nivedita Saboo. Technical fabrics with stylish cuts will rule the scene along with flowy ones.

“Women can look forward to a lot of variations in trousers and comfy shirts. Dresses will continue to be a common favourite.” While resort wear is predicted to be another favoured trend for both men and women, abstracts or checks will replace the floral patterns. Designer Nachiket Barve states that contemporary styles will take the crown. “Indianness presented in a modern way will appeal the most. And rather than following a herd mentality, individuality will reflect in everyone’s dressing. People of all ages will be keen on experimenting and finding a style of their own.”

All things bright
Designer colour forecasts are harping big time on all bright shades like pink, magenta, yellow, lime, green, orange, red, purple being in. Saboo says, “One colour to watch out for this year is mustard gold. Mixed with ivory or metallic tones it sure is going to be a chic combo.” Plain or staid colours are definitely on their way out, according to the designer. Fashionistas can also look forward to tease their colour senses with new stony shades, informs designer Priyanka Rajiv, “Pink or purple hues with a hint of grey or greens and yellows with a dab of brown are some which simply look flattering.”

Less is more
Keeping it minimum is the key. And 2012 will see minimal detailing and embroidery on outfits, be it the Indian or western. Designer Priti Bhandari says, “Less use of motifs, frills, pleats and other embroidery detailing will be seen for women. The trend of lightly designed saris with dressy or heavier blouses that had caught up towards the end of 2011 will continue.”

Men’s fashion is also set for a transformation. They can look forward to a strong trend of jackets and business formals. Two way fabrics will also jump back in action. But in contrast to women, men’s wear will witness a lot of funky detailing on the elbows or under the collars to add to their style.

For the bride to be
The glamourous bride is set to take over the coy one this year. Bhandari says, “Brides will go all out for stylish skirts and lehengas with corset like blouses. The focus will be on deep necklines and sleek cuts.” Now that we have given you some valuable fashion tips, create your own style and make sure you look like a rockstar!

Virgose rocked at The HHI, Kolkata

Virgose rocked at The HHI, Kolkata

Virgose, at The HHI, rocked on December 31, thanks to DJ Chris who kept the foot-tapping numbers coming one after another. But not everybody chose to sweat it out on the dance floor.

A few got cosy on the plush seats, while most grooved to popular Bolly tracks, right from “Subah hone na de” to “Ainvayi ainvayi”. The guests also had their fill of mouth-watering kebabs and the choicest of beverages. At midnight those present wished everyone a Happy New Year with hugs and warm embraces.

One doesn’t always need to shake a leg and jig to popular tunes to ring in the New Year. On December 31, there were a group of revellers who preferred to welcome 2012 on the banks of the Ganges, chilling out over a lavish buffet spread and the choicest of wines at Floatel. To set the mood, a dance troupe performed on stage while Sourav, of “K For Kishore” fame, rendered popular tracks from Bollywood and got the crowd on its feet. If the Christmas celebration on the floating hotel was anything to go by, NYE was even bigger. With the whole place lit up with rice lights and party people exchanging embraces under the stars, there couldn’t have been a better way of ringing in the new year.

Ustad Rashid Khan’s son’s birthday bash in Kolkata

Ustad Rashid Khan’s son’s birthday bash in Kolkata

Pranam, Ghajini” – That’s how Bickram Ghoshgreeted Ustad Rashid Khan at the birthday bash of the vocalist’s son on January 1.

Khan, of course, was a little surprised with the new moniker and it took him close to 10 minutes to fathom the connection between him and “Ghajini”. Patting his back, Bickram said, “I read in the papers that you would be performing for Aamir Khan and that’s how I thought of the “Ghajini” connect.”

The night wore on and celebrations of Armaan (Khan’s son) continued in full swing. With musical renditions by Dipan and Kalyanjit, more wisecracks followed. Pt Debojyoti Bose called Khan aside and said, “If Bickram calls you Ghajini, you give it back to him and say, “Pranam, Iron Man”. These days, Bickram has graduated from endorsing milk to steel. So, if you are Ghajini, we should all call Bickram, the Iron Man of Bengal!”

Soon PT Tanmoy Bose joined in the fun and, then, there was no stopping the Bickram-Tanmoy duo from playing pranks. Naughty jokes were exchanged freely that had both Gargi and Swastika go red in the face. Swastika, Bickram and Khan shared their stories of having judged a show together and how Khan had shown a placard which had the ‘mindblowing’ tag written on it to one of the most lousy participants on the show. “The contestant literally blew my mind away and the only way I could voice my opinion was to say that sarcastically!” Khan said.

Meanwhile, Swastika brought up the topic of how unconvincing Bickram was in the lovemaking scenes of “Hothat Neerar Jonnye”. A mock-fight ensued between the two only to be punctuated by a call to Bickram to hit the dance floor on the lawns that rocked to the DJ mix of “Chammak challo” to ” Kolaveri Di”.

New Year parties in Kolkata

New Year parties in Kolkata

There were the ‘Desi boyz’. There were the ‘Chammak challos’. And together they partied as if there was no tomorrow. Their mantra – “Subah hone na de, saath khone na de, ek doosre ko hum sone na de.”

With barely a few seconds for the clock to strike midnight, DJ ANSHUL at UNDERGROUND, THE HHI, started the countdown. Every single person joined in. And then, it was time for New Year hugs and kisses for each other. Those wanting to connect with their near and dear ones before the lines got jammed, rushed outside, phone in hand, to make that New Year wish. What better way to welcome the event than by playing “Kolaveri Di”!

Soon after, the DJ went dhinchak with “Dekha jo tujhe yaar, dil mein baji guitar”! “I had to play “Chammak Challo”, “Subah hone na de”, “Kolaveri Di” and “Ooh la la”, at least thrice as the party people wanted to dance to these songs in particular. It’s good to see the Kolkata people rocking,” said Anshul. Everyone wanted to have a good time and despite the club being choc-a-bloc with hardly any space to shimmy and shake a leg, people never complained. The reason? Party abhi baki hain!

CHAMMAK CHALLO VS KOLAVERI DI
A loud cheer rang out when the familiar beats of “Chammak challo” blared through the speakers at Venom. The jampacked dancefloor exploded in a collective coordinated hand movement a la SRK and Kareena as DJ Kunal spun the remixed version of the track. But there was more to come! Enter “Kolaveri Di”, hip hop ishtyle! The soup song was reborn in an international avatar on the turntable and made revellers groove like never before.

FROM WALES WITH LOVE
“In the UK, people prefer partying at their homes on New Year’s Eve,” said the beautiful DJ Misy from Wales, who played at Venom as part of her Ministry of Sound world tour. “The people of Kolkata seriously know how to party! I love the fact that they have a dance move ready for every beat. Tonight, I’ll mostly play commercial and progressive house,” she said as she took over the console a little after midnight.

ZERO HOUR
Close to midnight, there was a flurry of activity at the club as people got busy with their phones sending last moment texts and BBMs to their loved ones. As DJ Kunal started the countdown, a hush fell over the floor. At exactly midnight, the party people were seen wishing each other. Hugs and kisses galore, it was one happening night of ushering in 2012.

While most of the world decided to dance their way into the new year, there were a few who settled down for a cozy dinner at POOLSIDE, FORTUNE SELECT LOUDON. We spotted a gang of guys from IIM, Joka, having a good time. “We decided to spend New year’s Eve away from our academic routines. So we decided to chill out by the pool side,” said one. At ZODIAC, we spotted cozy couples, happy families and bunch of friends enjoying the lavish buffet spread and the select wine on offer.

Sohini Paul’s birthday bash in Kolkata

Sohini Paul’s birthday bash in Kolkata

Her birthday is on December 31. But in her words she can “never have a celebration on that day” as most of the guests would be busy partying for New Year.

And, hence, after a “long gap of eight to nine years” Sohini Paul threw a party for friends and family. Said the birthday girl, “Oh, I had a blast on Friday. I hope my guests too had equal fun.” When asked what she would be doing on her birthday, Sohini said, “I woke up a bit late after the party on Friday. My dad is a bit old school and he believes that love means feeding good food to people.

So he has got me a lovely cake and a bouquet. I know for sure that I’ll be showered with clothes and stuff.” Sohini would be munching on five pieces of chocolate cup cakes baked by one of her friends. “My friends will be coming over in the morning and I plan to go for another event in the evening,” the birthday girl signed off.
